Chuna Ram Pilania

Chaudhary Chuna Ram Pilania was a freedom fighter from Pilani in Rajasthan. He fought British forces in the later stage of the 1857 uprising. He came from the Pilania family and was the Chaudhary of Bada Pana, one of the two parts of Pilani.

Early Life

He was born in in Pilani. His father was Surja Ram Pilania and his mother was Bibi Suri Bai.
Pilani was split into Bada Pana and Chhota Pana. Chuna Ram held the post of Chaudhary of Bada Pana.

Role in the 1857 Fight

After the main centres of the 1857 revolt were crushed, Tatya Tope kept fighting the British. His forces moved through Rajasthan in 1858 and 1859.
He first reached the Mandalgarh area in Bhilwara in August 1858 and later moved toward the Shekhawati region near Sikar.

On 21 January 1859, British troops under Colonel Holmes attacked and defeated Tatya Tope’s group near Sikar.

Chuna Ram fought with Tatya Tope’s men during this time.

Death

Chuna Ram was killed in battle against the British in. He was about 58 years old. His death happened in the final stage of Tatya Tope’s campaign in Rajasthan.

What Happened After

After the defeat near Sikar, Tatya Tope continued with fewer men. About 600 of his followers surrendered to Maharaja Sardar Singh of Bikaner.
Tatya Tope stayed free until April 1859. He was caught, tried by a military court, and hanged at Shivpuri on 18 April 1859.

Deola Dada Pilania (1611–1643) was a revered warrior and the Lok Devta (folk deity) of the Pilania clan of the Jats. Baba Piru Ram

Baba Piruram Pilania (1567–1615) was a 16th–17th century saint, warrior, and revered figure of the Jat community in northern India.
